Consider Accepting Bids and Awarding Contract - 2017 Street Reclamation Project

Action Requested:
Staff recommends the approval of the attached Resolution accepting bids and awarding the contract for the 2017 Street Reclamation Project (STRT2017-A36).

Summary Report:
The City Council is being asked to award the contract for the 2017 Street Reclamation Project (STRT2017-A36). The Plans and Specifications were completed by the City of Northfield Engineering Division, and at the May 16, 2017 City Council Meeting, the Council authorized the advertisement for bids via Resolution 2017-043. The project was advertised for the minimum 21 days as required by Minnesota Statutes Chapter 429. The ad for bid was published in the Northfield News, and on the MnDOT eAdvert site and City of Northfield website.

The project scope includes work on the following streets (Attachment 2):

* Maple Street from Woodley Street to Ninth Street (including sidewalk)
* Ninth Street from Maple Street to Nevada Street (including sidewalk)
* Nevada Street from Ninth Street to Seventh Street (including sidewalk)
* Bunday Court
* Hillside Court
* Professional Drive from Woodley Street to TH 3 Frontage Road
* Marvin Lane from TH 246 to Washington Street (including sidewalk)
* Sibley View Lane from Jefferson Parkway to Sibley View Court
* Sibley View Court


The City received four (4) competitive bids, which were publicly opened and tabulated on June 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. The bids ranged from $810,132.25 to $872,332.15 with the lowest responsible bidder being Swenke Ims Contracting, LLC with a total bid amount of $810,132.25.
