Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council approves the attached Resolution formally accepting Public Safety Aid and the corresponding Budget Amendments increasing Revenue and Police Salaries in 2023.
Summary Report:
The City Council is being asked to officially accept the Public Safety Aid of $899,143 received December 28, 2023 and to approve a budget amendment increasing revenue by $899,143 and increasing police salaries by $45,211.78 related to the previously approved 3-step increase for Police Officers.
The Minnesota State Legislature appropriated $300 million in the form of one-time Public Safety Aid to local government for public safety priorities. The City of Northfield share of this is $899,143.
On July 11, 2023, the Council passed Resolution 2023-065 authorizing step increases for Licensed Police Officers. A budget amendment is needed for 2023 activity, and future expense in 2024-2026 will be included in the annual budget.

Do not accept and return funds.
Financial Impacts:
A one-time increase in revenue in 2023 activity.
