TITLE
Quarterly Police Report, Quarter 1, 2023

BODY
Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council will receive the quarterly report from the Police Chief on public safety activity in Northfield during the first quarter of 2023.

Summary Report:
The Quarterly Police Report is a presentation delivered by the Police Chief to the City Council. The intent of this report is to give a quarterly update to the City Council on public safety statistics and information. A brief presentation will be given along with a copy of the presentation in the council agenda materials.

The addition of the Data Coordinator position in the police department in 2022 has given the police department the operational capacity to research, track, and compile this data and make it available for presentation to the City Council and the public on a regular basis. This information will assist the police department in meeting the goals of transparency in the work the officers do and the types of calls for service that occur in the city. This data compliments the data available on the Community Crime Map on the police webpage. https://www.northfieldmn.gov/1432/Crime-Map
The police chief strongly believes an informed community is a safer community and this information allows for community members to make informed decisions on their personal safety.

For Quarter 1, 2023 which covers the time period of January 1, 2023- March 31, 2023 the police department responded to 7530 Calls For Service (CFS). This was a 4% decrease from last quarter Q4 2022, and a 1% increase from last year Q1 2022. The attachments included in this item show the calls for service in Group A crimes (more serious) and Group B crimes (less serious) as classified by the FBI NIBRS crime index.
