Climate Emergency Declaration Presentation.

Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council receives a presentation regarding declaration of a climate emergency.
Summary Report:
Elected officials from local units of government across Minnesota, convened by the Great Plains Institute, have been meeting over 2021 to discuss climate issues. Councilor Nakasian has been participating with this group. An action they are asking their elected bodies to take is the adoption of a resolution declaring a Climate Emergency. Supplemental materials are provided with additional background.
The Northfield Environmental Quality Commission (EQC) received a presentation on this request at its November 15, 2021 meeting. They agreed that Northfield should participate and a subcommittee created some Northfield specific points to include in the resolution. The EQC finalized a draft resolution and adopted a motion asking City Council to approve the resolution.
Members of the EQC will provide a short presentation. The proposed resolution is included as an item on the consent agenda.
