The HRC receives update from staff.
Summary Report:
• Staff are continuing to participate in the Northfield Racial & Ethnic Equity Collaborative. Staff assisted in providing support to develop and send out a survey to assess racial equity in Northfield. The HRC was asked to participate in the survey and share with their networks. Postcards were mailed to all Northfield residences along with outreach by members of the NREEC. As of November 24 there were 663 completed surveys. Paper copies will be collected from distribution sites in the next week or so and the electronic version will stay open through mid-December. Survey data will be analyzed by Professor Roith’s St. Olaf J-term Statistics class. Results will be shared with the community in March/April. The Building Awareness group from NREEC is considering some sort of community event/conversations after the survey data is out.
• The staff Racial Equity Core Team has been providing links to videos on race, slavery, the civil war and civil rights to all city staff to watch as they are interested to help grow our understanding of systemic inequities.
• Staff Racial Equity Core Team spent time reviewing the Racial Equity Action Plan work to date and will be working on what department racial equity tools for city staff use might contain.
