Consider Approval of New Handbook Policy (Paid Family Parental Leave).

Action Requested:                     

The Northfield City Council approves a Motion adopting the attached Handbook Policy regarding Paid Family Parental Leave.

 

Summary Report:

The Council Employment Policy Committee discussed and made a motion to recommend approval of this policy for City Council approval at their September 22, 2021 meeting.  This policy has been reviewed by the Labor Attorney for input.

 

Originally created as a temporary Council Administrative Policy, this policy is recommended to be added to the Employee Handbook as a regular policy.

 

Changes to the language include reference to a 240-hour cap vs. number of days and request for minimum length of paid family parental leave to be more than 3 days as this policy runs concurrently with federal family medical leave.

Financial Impacts:                     

Paid Family Parental Leave dollars are budgeted in the Human Resources budget for use by all departments in 2021 and proposed for 2022 and 2023.

Staff recommends consideration of approval of  Paid Family Parental Leave as a Handbook policy to be effective October 5, 2021.
