Consider Resolution of Support for Rice County Corridor Study and Rice County Request for State Capital Bonding Requests.

Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council approves Resolution of Support for Rice County Corridor Study on Decker Avenue.
Summary Report:
The City of Northfield, City of Dundas, and Bridgewater Township have been working with Rice County on long term transportation planning. One of the transportation corridors is Decker Avenue. Rice County is considering taking over this roadway from Bridgewater Township and the City of Northfield.
The City of Northfield, Rice County and Dakota County transportation plan identified the realignment of County 23 (Cedar Avenue) over to Garrett/Decker Avenue. This proposed study fits in good collaboration with other jurisdictions working toward the City’s transportation goals.
In addition, MnDOT is currently planning for an improvement on Highway 19 in 2025; this corridor plan can also help inform some of those decisions for that project. It is anticipated that the project will begin late 2021 and carry into 2022.
Staff is recommending support of the study.
