Title
Support for Hispanic Heritage Celebration
Body
Action Requested:
The HRC is asked to consider using some of its budget to help support the Hispanic Heritage Celebration.
Summary Report:
The HRC has a budget of $2,000 in the 2021 City Budget to use for community events, speaker fees, etc. So far in 2021 $125 has been spent on speaker honorarium for the MLK Celebration.
For the past few years, the Northfield Public Library has hosted an Hispanic Heritage Celebration between mid-Sept through October. This year the Library is expanding the kick-off event to be even more of a community event and it will be held in Central Pak on Sept 18. The event involves several groups of professional performers along with other expenses. In past years, a grant from SEMAC has funded the performers but that grant is not open to the Library to apply this year. They are seeking funding from other avenues. The cost of performers is still being finalized but will most likely be around $6,500. The HRC is asked to consider a contribution toward this event from its budget.
The HRC could most likely have information available at the even about Human Rights Violation process. The event organizers will be sharing information with community partners soon regarding tabling and announcements.
Alternative Options:
No funds are allocated.
Financial Impacts:
Will reduce funds available for HRC led events (if any take place).
Tentative Timelines:
Decide by May 13 HRC meeting.
