Human Rights Commission Meeting Date: April 8, 2021
To: Human Rights Commission
From: Beth Kallestad, Program Coordinator
Title
Consider Community Picnic
Body
Action Requested:
The HRC will discuss continuation of annual community picnic.
Summary Report:
In 2018 the HRC first hosted what was then called the Najwa Community Picnic. The event was named for an HRC member who had recently passed away and who was passionate about bringing community together. In 2019, the picnic was held the last Saturday of June. In 2020, it was not held due to the pandemic.
At a recent HRC meeting the idea was raised of potentially expanding this event to more of a cultural celebration. A decision needs to be made regarding: hosting an event in 2021, the scope/scale of event, and timing.
If the HRC wishes to move forward, a subcommittee needs to be formed to do the planning and logistics work. Staff can provide some limited support.
Alternative Options:
No event is held.
Financial Impacts:
The HRC has some funds in the 2021 budget to pay for supplies if needed. Approximately $1875 remain in budget after MLK Celebration expenses.
Tentative Timelines:
