Consider approval of Tobacco License Renewals.

BODY

Action Requested:                     

The Northfield City Council approves tobacco licenses as shown on Attachment 1, subject to successful completion of all background checks and receipt of all final documents.

 

Summary Report:

The City received 12 applications for tobacco license renewals as shown on the attached list.   Licenses are valid until December 31.  The Police Department is conducting background checks and location reviews.  Licenses will be issued upon successful completion of all checks and receipt of any outstanding documents. 

 

Compliance checks were conducted on March 25 and August 23, 2019.  There was one violation on March 25, 2019 at Ziggy’s for selling to underage. A civil penalty of $200 was issued and paid by Ziggy’s. There were no violations on August 23, 2019.  

 

Staff will send the proposed tobacco ordinance changes and related meeting dates to license holders on December 2, 2019. 

 

Staff recommends approval of the licenses.

Financial Impacts:                     

The City of Northfield received $3,500 in license fees.  Staff will be reviewing license fees in early 2020. 

 

Tentative Timelines:                     

The current licenses expire on December 31, 2019.  Renewal documents must be sent to the State prior to December 31, 2019.
