In the 2018-2020 Strategic Plan, the City of Northfield listed Climate Change Action as one of the six Strategic Priorities with one of the desired outcomes being the creation of a Climate Action Plan (CAP).  As a result of this, a group of residents were appointed to serve as the Climate Action Plan Advisory Board (CAPAB) in February 2018.  The CAPAB was charge with development of the CAP and presenting it to City Council by the end of 2019.  Great Plains Institute was hired to serve as a consultant for the project.  The CAPAB, GPI and city staff worked on gathering data to determine city greenhouse gas emissions, reviewing other plans, recommending actions and priorities, soliciting public input and finally developing a Climate Action Plan.

A presentation on the CAP was presented to City Council on October 15, 2019.  It lays out goals for the next twenty years to help the City of Northfield, its residents and businesses work toward a carbon free future.
