Title

Consideration to Accept Donation for Additional Playground Equipment at Riverside/Lions Park.

Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield City Council approves the attached resolution accepting a donation from Northfield Lions of $10,000 to go towards additional playground equipment at Riverside/Lions Park.

Summary Report:

The Northfield Lions would like this donation to go towards the purchase of a playground structure called Ollies Nook.  Lions Club members Melanie Nordwall, Linda Banks, Rick Hucka, Dave Ludescher, Sara Nordwall and Tom Nielsen will present the donation to the City.

The playground structure will be installed in the existing playground area near the picnic shelter.  The location would be where an old wood playground structure was removed years ago.  There is also a set of swings located in this playground area.  The thought for putting the playground equipment back at this location is so that it would be close to the picnic shelter.  Northfield Lion’s has also expressed interest in adding individual play features in the future.

Riverside/Lion’s park also has a larger playground structure adjacent to 7th Street.  This playground equipment is scheduled for replacement in 2022.  The improvements are consistent with the Parks Master Plan.

Pictures of the proposed equipment and location are shown in Attachments 2 and 3.

The City would pay for the professional installation.  The Park and Recreation Advisory Board approved the donation for the playground structure at their July 25 meeting.
