The Northfield City Council receives an informational presentation regarding a local leadership development program.
Summary Report:
City of Northfield Program Coordinator, Beth Kallestad, has been working with the University of Minnesota Extension to develop a local leadership training program. One of the goals of this program is to help build the confidence and competence of emerging leaders who may wish to serve on city, school district, and local nonprofit boards and commissions. The target audience is underrepresented residents who have limited experience serving in local leadership capacities.
As noted in the City's 2018-2020 strategic plan, the City of Northfield has a targeted goal to see that membership of locally-appointed public boards and commissions is diverse and includes those historically/typically under-represented and representative of local demographics.
The City will be working with Extension, the Northfield Public School District and community partners such as Healthy Community Initiative to finalize development and pilot the training in 2020. We will also be seeking input from potential participants as we develop the training.
A summary of the current version of the program proposal is attached.
Staff is intending to inform the Council of the program and offer questions or clarifications on the program that is in development.

Financial Impacts:
The estimated total cost for the program is $10,049.00. As this is a pilot project, Extension will not be charging for their teaching and program development expenses.
