Title
Update on Najwa Community Picnic.
Body
Action Requested:
The Northfield Human Rights Commission receives an update regarding the Annual Najwa Community Picnic held on June 29, 2019
Summary Report:
The HRC hosted its second Annual Najwa Community Picnic on June 29, 2019 from Noon - 2 PM at Jefferson Park. The day was very hot! A tent, tables and chairs were rented from Rent N Save and set up in the morning. Some food was purchased from Kahlo and attendees also brought items to share. This was our first attempt at making the event Zero Waste so attendees were asked to bring plates/utensils and some did. We also provided compostable supplies, collected them at the end and brought to the city street shop bin. Music was provided by Bonnie & the Clydes. Some balls, bubbles and coloring materials were available. Some conversation questions were placed on tables (wind blew them around a bit). The Complete Count Committee (for Census) had a table with info and two representatives present.
Opening welcome was done by HRC Chair Valdecantos, Program Coordinator Beth Kallestad and community member Tom Loretto. Despite the heat, participants had a good time and made new connections. We estimate 50 people were present.
