The Northfield City Council is being asked to approve the attached Resolution proclaiming May 11 - 17, 2019 as Police Week in Northfield.
Summary Report:
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
Observance of Police week is to pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to voice our appreciation for all those who currently serve the citizens and visitors of Northfield.
Each day, the Northfield Police Department officers put on their uniform and patrol the streets and parks, homes and buildings, woods and waters to keep the citizenry safe and protect them from those who commit crimes or inflict harm. Each one of them is prepared to pay the ultimate sacrifice to defend those that cannot defend themselves and preserve the freedoms the constitution provides to us all.
The City of Northfield's Police Department is a great asset to the city, providing around the clock professional law enforcement services for citizens, businesses, and visitors. Recognizing the hard work they do on a daily basis and the sacrifices other officers have made in protecting the citizenry of this country is a small token of the gratitude they deserve.
It is recommended that the City Council proclaim May 11-17, 2019 as Police Week to show our respect to those officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, and to the commitment the Officers of the Northfield ...
