Action Requested:

The Northfield Park and Recreation Advisory Board is presented with the Artists on Main Street project.

Summary Report:

In October of 2018 the City of Northfield was selected for the Artists on Main Street project.  The Artists on Main Street is to develop a model for rural community development at the intersection of arts and culture, downtown revitalization and historic preservation.  The program consists of creative community development training and support for artists and community leaders for three years.

The project will use art, creativity, events or performances to help draw people’s attention to the west side of the downtown district and connect the west side of downtown to Division Street.  The boundaries of the project are 2nd Street to 5th Street, railroad tracks on west side of Hwy 3 to the East Riverwalk on the east side of the river.  This area includes Ames Park.

The Public Arts Review Committee (PARC) has asked if one of the Park Board members would like to represent the Park Board at PARC’s next meeting.  The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 22, 2019 from 11-12:30pm at the Library.
