Title

Discussion of Snow Removal Policy.

Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield City Council discusses the City of Northfield’s snow removal policy and operations.

Summary Report:

February 2019 was one of the snowiest months we have seen in a long time.  Questions have been asked about the City’s snow removal operations.  Staff is looking for feedback and suggestions to improve snow removal operations.  This is an initial conversation following the end of the season so we would have more time if necessary to further explore potential changes.

City staff has sent out a survey through POLCO that will be available until the end of April.  The link to the survey on the City’s website can be found at <https://www.ci.northfield.mn.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1040>We encourage the public to register online and respond to the survey to receive input and feedback on snow removal discussions.  The survey is open until the end of the month but depending on how good of a response we get we may be sharing the interim results with council for the meeting Tuesday.

City staff will also review the current snow removal operations with the City Council.

We anticipate adding some additional slides for discussion to be sent as a supplemental memo on Monday.

Alternative Options:

Do not make any changes to the current snow removal operations.

Financial Impacts:

Dependent on the results of the survey and direction from Council

Tentative Timelines:

Integrate suggestions into the 2019-2020 season (for certain changes that may require additional equipment or staffing) or not 2020-2021 snow season if there are more significant budget impacts.
