New Commissioner Orientation and Existing Member Refresher.

SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED:
Staff will facilitate a Board and Commission New Member Orientation and Refresher that is being provided to all advisory boards and commissions. The following is an outline of the orientation:

1) We will strart by watching te the Boards and Commissions Orientation Video. https://www.ci.northfield.mn.us/98/Boards-Commissions
a. Orientation Video Power Point (attached)
2) City Council Rules of Business (attached). We will reference this document that does apply to the Human Rights Commission. The Exhibit B Rules of Decorum is one in particular we are emphasizing for awareness of members.
3) Please mark your calendars as we strongly encourage attendance of all boards and commissions at the following events:
a. State of the City Address: March 18, Weitz Center, Carleton College, 6:30pm
b. Board and Commission Recognition Event: April 17, Weitz Center, Carleton College, 5pm - 6:30pm
c. Board and Commission Training Event: October 23, location pending, 5pm - 6:30pm
d. Holiday Social and City Council Appreciation Reception: December, Date, Location and Time to be determined.
4) Board and Commission Excellence Award Form:

Staff encourages individuals to consider nominating peers for excellence of their fellow Human Rights Commissioners for their work in 2019 (or current work).
5) Review Human Rights Commission Ordinance and Bylaws. Staff would welcome any feedback on any potential areas to look at further in 2019 to incorporate into our work plan schedule. Staff is not proposing any specific amendments at this time.
