Title

Consider requesting Text Amendment for new downtown signage regulations.

Body

SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED:

The HPC is requested to consider a motion to forward the recommended sign code regulatory changes to the Planning Commission.

BACKGROUND:

Staff and the HPC have been working on revisions to sign regulations for the Historic District for over a year.  At its December meeting, the commission finalized comments, but asked to see the changes one more time before referring to the Planning Commission.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends forwarding the Ordinance to the Planning Commission.

TIMELINE:

A Land Development Code (LDC) text amendment follows a Type 4 Development Review Procedure as established in Section 8.4.7 of the LDC.  Once the language changes are reviewed and approved by the HPC, the proposed LDC text amendment will be put into ordinance form and forwarded to the Planning Commission for review, where a public hearing will also be conducted.  A recommendation from the Planning Commission will then be forwarded to the City Council for consideration.  LDC Amendments require approval by Ordinance, and this process takes approximately two months.
