Update On Christmas Tree Collection

Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield Environmental Quality Commission is to discuss how the City handles Christmas tree collection.

Summary Report:

Annually, following Christmas several City of Northfield residents are in need of Christmas tree disposal of from resident’s homes. Within the City, residents may place their Christmas tree at the boulevard for DSI to collect on resident’s weekly refuse pickup day. DSI picks up the Christmas trees for two weeks of collection and then hauls the trees to the City’s compost site. Once the trees are at the compost site and the tree pile is large enough, the City has Mystic Lake employees come to grind the tree debris. The tree grindings are then hauled to Mystic Lakes site where the grindings are incinerated for heating purposes.
