Staff recommends approval of the attached Resolution Approving Appointment of Michael Ericson as Interim Community Development Director.

 

Summary Report:

The City posted an Interim Community Development Director opportunity on the website, social media, Indeed, League of Minnesota Cities, and did some outreach on our own.  Seven candidates applied for the position. Three candidates were interviewed on September 11-12. 

 

As written in the City Charter Section 7.3 Power and Duties of the Administrator, Subd. 2. With the approval of the council, the administrator shall appoint and may remove the finance director, the city clerk and other department heads.  After careful consideration, City Administrator Martig has selected a finalist to fill the position. 

 

Mr. Ericson has a diverse work background with twenty-nine years of dedicated public service in city government.  His most recent position was Interim Community Development Director for the City of Brooklyn Center.  See attached cover letter and resume.

 

Mr. Ericson’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s of Science in Public Administration from Winona State University and a Masters of Arts Urban and Regional Studies from Minnesota State University Mankato (Summa Cum Laude).

 

Mr. Ericson will be available for a “Meet and Greet” between 4:45pm - 5:15pm before Monday’s joint City Council/Charter Commission meeting at the Northfield Police Department.
