Consider Mayoral Establishment of and Appointments to Temporary City/Hospital Governance Committee

Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council approves the Establishment of a Temporary City Council and Northfield Hospital and Clinic Board Governance Committee and Confirmation of Mayoral Appointments.
Summary Report:
Mayor Pownell, Councilor Ness, and City Administrator Martig have been meeting approximately every other month with Northfield Hospital and Clinic (NH+C) Board Chair Mandile and CEO Underdahl to coordinate communications on hospital and City related issues. The group has been recently exploring the suggestion to explore best practice around governance models/practices for a stronger working relationship between the NH+C Board and the City Council.
NH+C Chair Mandile and Mayor Pownell presented the concept to the NH+C Board at their board meeting on April 26th. The purpose and concept overall was well received by the Board. The Board met again in May and approved an amended version of the proposed Committee unanimously.
This was reviewed by the City Council at the May 1, 2018 City Council meeting as well. The amendments that occurred since this Council meeting were minor.
The proposed appointments of Mayor Pownell will be provided as a supplemental memo for this packet.
