Discuss City Administrator Performance Review Policy

Action Requested:                     

City Council discuss City Administrator Performance Review Process as a City Administrative Policy brought forward by the Council Employment Policy Committee and City staff.   

 

Summary Report:

The Council Employment Policy Committee discussed the attached policy at their meetings on February 21 and March 28. 

 

The Council Employment Policy Committee and City staff have developed the attached draft City Administrator Performance Review Policy. The performance evaluation process was developed based on other samples as well as some historical considerations of process used in Northfield.  Labor Attorney Fitzsimmons reviewed and advised on policy language with legal considerations and participated in discussion at the March 28, 2018 Council Employment Policy Committee meeting.

Alternative Options:

a) Discuss amendments to the draft language to include with a resolution for council consideration and approval of the policy on April 17, 2018.

b) Request any legal clarification prior to April 17, 2018.

c) Refer to Council Employment Policy Committee related to options a and b.

 

 

Financial Impacts:                     

None.

 

Tentative Timelines:                     

City Administrator’s employment anniversary date is May 2, 2018.  Guidance by this administrative policy will develop the timeline for the annual performance evaluation.
