Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield City Council accepts the 2016 Recycling Rebate Check from Dick’s Sanitation Inc. for participating in the Recycling Rewards Program.

Summary Report:

As part of the Residential Garbage and Refuse Hauling Agreement with Dick’s Sanitation Inc. (DSI), the City receives reimbursement for participating in the DSI Recycle Bank Program.  DSI shares in the recycling reimbursement values received from the Rice County Recycling Facility.  The amount of the rebate is dependent upon commodity values at the time the materials are recycled.

In 2016, the City recycled 1,185 tons of material, slightly less than the 2015 amount of 1,237 tons.  The City’s share of the recycling reimbursement for 2016 is $15,405.

Along with the recycling rebate, DSI donated 17 bare root trees and provided the 2017 $500 Northfield Scholarship to Bailey Hoffer.  The scholarship is provided for a student pursuing environmental sciences.

Jeff Weast, DSI Director of Sales and Marketing, will be attending the meeting to present the check to City Council.
