Consider Approval of Election Judge Appointments, Pay and Absentee Ballot Boards for the 2017 Special Election

Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council hereby:
1. Approves appointment of election judges as shown on the attached list for the November 7, 2017 Special Election at an hourly rate of $11.00/hour for regular judges and $12.50/hour for lead judges;
2. Designates Rice County as the Absentee Ballot Board for Rice County ballots;
3. Designates Dakota County as the Absentee Ballot Board for Dakota County ballots; and
4. Authorizes the City Clerk to appoint additional judges as needed.

Summary Report:
The City Council is being asked to appoint election judges for the upcoming election, authorize the City Clerk to appoint additional judges as needed, and designate Rice County and Dakota County as absentee ballot boards. By authorizing the City Clerk to appoint additional judges as needed, staff will continue to recruit judges during the weeks leading up to the election. Election judges may also be used to assist staff with election duties prior to the election. City staff members have also been named as election judges in order to assist with various election activities.

Absentee voting will be available at Northfield City Hall beginning September 22, 2017 through Monday, November 6. In addition to all City of Northfield ballots, we will have ballots for Northfield School District 659 precincts in Rice County. Rice County will continue to process all voted Rice County absentee ballots using their absentee ballot board. Dakota County will process all voted Dakota County absentee ballots using their absentee ballot board.
