Approval of Grant application process for SEMAC Grant for Sidewalk Poetry, 2018 by the Arts and Culture Commission

Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council authorizes the Arts and Culture Commission and city staff to develop and submit a grant application to the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council for sidewalk poetry projects within the City of Northfield.
Summary Report:
The City Council is being asked to approve the submission of a grant application to the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC) for continuation of the sidewalk poetry project in Northfield. The grant application deadline is October 1, 2017. The ACC envisions requesting up to $10,000 from SEMAC for the project, which will require a match of a mandatory 20% $2,000, at least $1,000 of which must be in cash. If granted, the money may be spent between February 1 and October 31, 2018. It is anticipated that the cash portion of the match will be raised by local individuals and organizations. To continue the sidewalk poetry project, the ACC is requesting Council approval to again apply to the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council for the support for the 2018 project.
