Body

Action Requested:

Review and discuss action plan for remainder of 2017

Summary Report:

The City Council is wrapping up its Strategic Planning process.  Attached to this staff report is the adopted summary of the strategic plan.  City staff have been working to create the action plans for the individual plan priorities.  These will be released when finalized.  At this point, there are no projects for the Planning Commission to lead.

Many of the action plan items are studies and further plan development.  Staff will be coordinating these projects so Planning Commission input or direction will be sought when needed or required.  Some of the suggested action items will result in Comprehensive Plan amendments.  These will require Planning Commission approval once the draft studies are completed.

As an example, the Engineering and Community Development Department staff are working on a proposal to update to the Northfield Parks, Open Space, and Trail System Plan in 2018.  Since this plan is part of the Parks and Recreation chapter of Northfield Comprehensive Plan, the Planning Commission will play a key role.  Additional details will be provided when the project scope is completed.

Several representatives from the City of Northfield are also participating in a regional complete streets training process hosted by Rice County.  Information gathered from this training may be used to update existing policies and procedures in the City of Northfield.
