Consideration of Mayoral Appointments to Boards and Commissions.

Action Requested:
The City Council approves the following appointments:

Shafqat Iqbal to fill a vacancy on the Human Rights Commission with a term expiring December 31, 2019.

Rigoberto Lazaro to fill a vacancy on the Human Rights Commission with a term expiring December 31, 2017.

Tracy Davis Heisler to fill a vacancy on the Planning Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals with a term expiring December 31, 2018.

Summary Report:
The City Council is being asked to approve the appointments as noted above.

Shafqat Iqbal is being recommended to fill a vacancy on the Human Rights Commission. Mr. Iqbal states the following on his application: I strongly believe that no human-being should be deprived of basic rights. Every citizen deserves fair opportunity in education, employment, housing and social services regardless of their color, creed, race, origin, sexual orientation, age, family status or religion. Human rights affect the happiness, health and prosperity of a community. I have always been involved in social justice one way or the other and would like to take this opportunity to serve Northfield community. Race relationships and diversity is also very important for any community and I think I can bring some value in human rights commission body for having a diverse background.

Rigoberto Lazaro is being recommended to fill a vacancy on the Human Rights Commission. Mr. Lazaro states the following on his application: "As a member of the Northfield community and part of the largest underrepresented group within the community, I want to see change and see more inclusivity within our town.
