University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs Capstone Project Report

SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED:
The Humphrey School of Public Affairs will report on their analysis of existing housing market in the City of Northfield.
BACKGROUND:
Each semester, the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota provides services to public and nonprofit organizations as part of capstone workshop projects completed nearing the end of students' graduate studies. Students work in teams for a client, conducting independent and rigorous research and producing professional, high quality analysis, recommendations, and solutions.
The student-consultant teams develop the tools and methods to complete a given project, working with faculty oversight and University resources. Client deliverables include professional reports, briefings, research, materials, and other specific tools to address issues at hand.
Community Development staff submitted a capstone project proposal in April to provide analysis of the existing housing market in Northfield utilizing existing studies and secondary information sources. The Northfield project proposal was one of five projects selected by Humphrey School of Public Affairs for the summer of 2017. A presentation of the Capstone Project will be provided at the HRA meeting.
ANALYSIS:
The housing market analysis provided by the Capstone Project will be valuable to the Housing & Redevelopment Authority regarding allocation of resources for future housing projects.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the Housing and Redevelopment Authority Board (HRA) receive the report.
