The Northfield City Council will have a presentation from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation. No action proposed.
Summary Report:
For many years, the City of Northfield has given SMIF a contribution to help with programming. The earliest payment in our software was in 2007 for $4,000 from the EDA fund. In 2010, the contribution increased to $5,000, and we have given them a $5,000 contribution each year since. The contribution originally came from the EDA, but has been from the General Fund since 2012. The Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation is requesting the City of Northfield contribute $5,000 for the 2018 budget year.
Jennifer Nelson, Vice President of Development, will be presenting at the meeting and is available to answer questions. In addition to the attached letter and Rice County fact sheet, Ms. Nelson will bring copies of their annual report and brochures for distribution.

Financial Impacts:
If funding is approved, this would impact the 2018 budget. Staff plans to discuss this consideration with Council at a future budget Work Session. For this meeting, we are suggesting just clarifying questions from the SMIF representative.
