Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council approves the Resolution authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute an Agreement with the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).

Summary Report:
Dating back to at least 1969 the City of Northfield has had in place with MnDOT a series of biennial agreements to perform routine maintenance on certain portions of the State Trunkline Highways passing through Northfield. The specific sections of roadway are shown in Attachment #2.
The responsibility that comes with this maintenance agreement (Attachment #3) includes crack filling the surface, restoration of utility openings, and patching. We must also keep these stretches free of snow and ice, litter, debris, maintain the pavement markings, and periodically paint the traffic signals. In general, Northfield must furnish all labor, materials, and equipment to perform routine maintenance.
Alternative Options:
The City of Northfield could reject this draft agreement, and thereby decline what is in effect a long-standing request and arrangement with MnDOT to perform basic maintenance on these Trunkline Highways through Northfield. Since our maintenance personnel are essentially on the scene, we can provide better response time to any requests, and considering the traditional payment by MnDOT for this coverage, approval seems to be a better choice.
Financial Impacts:
Under this agreement, the City is to be compensated $12,884.65 the first year, and $13,142.33 the second year, or a total of $26,026.98 for the two years of the agreement. It appears the 1969 agreement called for the City to be paid $3,204 for a total of 2.67 miles. The financial impact, beca...
