Update on the City of Northfield’s Tree Policy

The Northfield Environmental Quality Commission receives and files this update on Northfield’s tree policy.
Summary Report:
On November 13, 2012, the City Council did not adopt the 2012 tree policy. The policy was sent back to EQC for review in relation to the Land Development Code Section 3.6 Landscaping and the City’s approved tree list. Attached is the policy.
Katie Himanga drafted an Urban Forest Asset Management Plan in 2014. Some items from this management plan will be included in the updated tree policy. Attached is the asset management plan.
The City of Northfield has hired an intern to work on the 2012 tree policy draft. A component of the policy will be on the Emerald Ash Borer. Staff will be looking for feedback and input from the EQC on this policy. Once the tree policy is approved by the EQC, it will go back to City Council for their approval.
