Update on Northfield being a Pollinator Friendly Community

Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield Environmental Quality Commission receives and files this update on Northfield being a pollinator friendly community.

Summary Report:

On May 15, 2016, the City Council adopted a resolution to be a pollinator friendly community and encouraging residents and businesses to adopt pollinator friendly practices.

The City of Northfield has a native plant landscaping rebate program.  This program gives residents a 33% rebate up to $75 for planting native plants, which help support pollinators.  This rebate is a credit on the resident’s water bill.

The Northfield Garden Club has two landscape beds at Riverside Park that have pollinator friendly plants.  A third landscape bed will be constructed this summer.

The Street and Park Department is looking at a couple areas to start planting pollinator friendly plants.  One such location is the Oddfellow triangle at Hwy 19 and Forest Ave.
