Title

Environmental Quality Commission’s Visions and Goals for the City of Northfield.

Body

Action Requested:

No action is required.   George Kinney, Chair of the Environmental Quality Commission (EQC) will briefly describe the Commission’s vision, goals and attainable outcomes for the City to become carbon neutral and what carbon neutral means to the EQC.

Summary Report:

The Northfield Energy Working Group (NEWG) is a group of Northfield citizens that came to the EQC with ideas of having a Climate Action Plan drawn up for the City.  EQC has tasked the NEWG with researching and developing a possible Climate Action Plan.  The NEWG has come up with suggestions on what it could look like and how to get the Northfield Community involved in this plan.

The EQC also feels the City should focus on increasing its reliance on renewable energy, energy efficiency, managing stormwater run-off and flood control, and improving the quality and resilience of the urban habitat.  The EQC believes these items should be part of the Climate Action Plan for the City.

The EQC is sharing this information for Council to take this into account as part of its strategical planning process.
