Title

Additional playground equipment at Dresden Hills Park

Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield Parks and Recreation Advisory Board views a presentation from Athziri Marcial Rodriguez, Odalis Ascensio Puga, Sheyla Lino all sophomores at Northfield H.S. and YouthBank grant recipients along with Sara Tetrault the Adult advisor. The Board is asked to accept a donation from the grant recipients to go towards additional playground equipment at Dresden Hills Park.

Summary Report:

Athziri, Odalis and Shelya were grant recipients for the installation of a playground to be located in the Viking Terrace Mobile Home Park.  After they received the grant the owners of Viking Terrace decided there wasn’t an ideal location inside the park for a playground. This project was through the Northfield Healthy Community Initiative.

Northfield Healthy Community Initiative was in contact with City to see if there was a possibility to add equipment to the Dresden Hills playground with the grant money. It was determined that equipment could be added to the existing playground.

Athziri, Odalis, and Sheyla would like to donate the grant money to the City of Northfield to add more equipment to Dresden Hills Park.

If the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board accepts this donation it will go to City Council for final approval.

Alternative Options:

Don’t accept the donation.

Financial Impacts:

Staff time and the cost to enlarge the existing playground area.

Tentative Timelines:

Spring/Summer 2017.
