SUMMARY:

2016 Street Assessment Assistance Final Report

BACKGROUND:

The HRA created the Street Assessment Assistance Program in 2012 with the objective to lessen the financial burden of the street assessments for income eligible households in Northfield.  Financial assistance up to $3,000 is provided to assist with required street assessment expenses for income-eligible homeowners.  The assistance is in the form of a grant.  The program is funded with tax levy dollars awarded to the HRA.

ANALYSIS:

There were 71 properties that were assessed for street improvements in 2017.  The HRA received 11 applications for street assessment assistance.  One application was denied due to unpaid previous year taxes.  Assistance was awarded to 10 families.  The average amount of assistance was $2,402.  The lowest amount of assistance paid was $476 and the highest amount was $3,000.  A report detailing the Street Assessment Assistance Program for the last five years is attached for your information.
