Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation Presentation (SMIF)

Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council will have a presentation from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation. No action proposed.
Summary Report:
For many years, the City of Northfield has given SMIF a contribution to help with programming. The earliest payment in our software was in 2007 for $4,000 from the EDA fund. In 2010, the contribution increased to $5,000, and we have given them a $5,000 contribution each year since. The contribution originally came from the EDA, but has been from the General Fund since 2012. The Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation is requesting the City of Northfield contribute $5,800 for the 2017 budget year.
Jennifer Nelson, VP of Development, will be at the meeting at 7:00pm on Tuesday, August 16th to make the presentation. They will bring their 2015 annual report to share.
Council may ask questions at the meeting.
Financial Impacts:
If approved, this would impact the 2017 budget. Staff plans to discuss this consideration with council at a future budget worksession. For this meeting, we are suggesting just clarifying questions from the SMIF representative.
