The Northfield City Council is asked to witness presentation of Life Saving Awards to Officers Klostermeier and Wierson for their performance of emergency care to a cardiac arrest victim.
Summary Report:
Officers Steve Klostermeier and Drew Wierson are presented with the Northfield Police Department Life Saving Award for their quick and professional response and care of a cardiac arrest victim.
On April 22, 2016 at about 3:00 a.m., Officers Wierson and Klostermeier responded to a report of a 35 year old male in cardiac arrest. When they arrived, the victim’s wife was performing CPR. Wierson evaluated the victim and took over CPR. Klostermeier assisted with deploying an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The AED was used to administer several shocks to the victim. The officers continued care and assisted Northfield Hospital EMS personnel with advanced care. Before the victim was transported to the hospital, he had regained a pulse and started breathing on his own.
Because of the quick emergency care administered by Officers Klostermeier and Wierson, the victim survived and eventually, made a full recovery. See the attached letter from Dr. Jennifer Fischer regarding the care provided by the officers.
