SUMMARY AND ACTION REQUESTED:

Rice County Habitat for Humanity (Habitat) is requesting financial support from the Northfield Housing & Redevelopment Authority (HRA) for building permits for their housing built in Northfield at 805 1st Street West.

BACKGROUND:

Habitat for Humanity partners with families who, without their support, would be unable to achieve the dream of homeownership.  These families are burdened by the high cost of rent and do not have any other options.

In the past the HRA has paid for building permits and water/sewer hook-up fees (SAC/WAC) for the homes Habitat has built in Northfield.  Additionally, the Northfield HRA has provided land to Habitat for Humanity for the purpose of building affordable housing in Northfield.

ANALYSIS:

The work done by Habitat is in line with the HRA goals.  The permit costs are estimated at $2300 - $2500.  Fees for SAC/WAC will not apply to this build as it is on an infill site.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends HRA approval to pay permit fees for the new house being built at 805 1st Street West.
