Skateboard Park Update

Action Requested:
The Northfield Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) is being provided with an update on the status of the Skateboard Park (2013PARK-E02). At this time no action from the PRAB is required.

Summary Report:
At their January 2015 meeting, the PRAB approved a resolution regarding the location, design and budget for the Skateboard Park by a vote of 7 to 1. Subsequently, on January 20, 2015 the City Council took up this matter and approved a resolution regarding the location, design and budget for the Skateboard Park as well as directing staff to complete plans and specifications for the construction of the park. This resolution was passed unanimously (attachment 1).

Since that time Pillar Design Studios (PDS) has been working on the design. A 90% submittal was received by staff on January 30, 2015. Review comments were returned to PDS. A portion of the 90% design plans are attached to this report, see attachments 2 and 3. Attachment 4 is an updated three dimensional plan of the final design. It should be noted that the landscaping shown has not been approved, but a plan will prepared in the near future.

The next step in the process is the City Council's approval of the design and authorizing the advertisement for bids. This will occur at the March 3, 2015 Council meeting. Bids will then be opened on March 30, 2015 and staff will request that City Council award the contract on April 7, 2015. Construction will begin after contract award in the summer of 2015.

Financial Impacts:
