Summary Report:
Bridge Square Conditional Approval
Staff met with the design team responsible for the Bridge Square rehabilitation to help provide clarity and direction based on the HPC's February discussion. The design team is working to identify alternative lighting options and anticipates presenting alternatives at the April HPC meeting.
Central Park Local Heritage Site Designation
The Planning Commission did not recommend the designation of Central Park as a local heritage site, concerned that the designation would limit the City's options to improve the historic public square. The public hearing and first reading of the ordinance is scheduled for the City Council meeting on Tuesday, March 18th.
Northfield 2045 Comprehensive Plan
The Northfield 2045 Comprehensive Plan continues to be refined and is expected to be adopted this spring. The final Planning Commission work session is scheduled for a special meeting on March 10th, with final recommendation on the text scheduled for March 20th. As part of plan development efforts, staff are working to ensure clear connections to other critical planning documents such as the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and some of the most recent planning efforts such as the Climate Action Plan and the Riverfront Enhancement Action Plan. Additionally, staff is working to coordinate the shorter-term strategic plan efforts with the creation of this 20-year comprehensive planning document to best align department work programs with the desired future state described in the plan document.
