To: Mayor and City Council
From: Michelle Mahowald, Communications & Human Resources Director
Ben Martig, City Administrator
Title
Consider Resolution and approval of the 2025-2027 Base Pay Schedules.
Body
Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council consider approval of 2025-2027 wages between the City of Northfield (City) and non-union employees and employees represented by an exclusive representative who have agreed to be subject to the city’s 2025-2027 wage schedules.
Summary Report:
City representatives met with the non-union employees on November 26, 2024 and have been meeting and negotiating with all four bargaining units representing the city’s unionized employees. Staff recommends that the City Council approve the wages schedules for 2025 through 2027 as the schedules meet the goals of the City through implementing components of the City’s job classification and compensation study conducted by McGrath Human Resources Group, effective January 1, 2025, which provides a 4% general wage increase to the new base pay schedule, effective January 1, 2025, along with other structural changes, 3% general wage increase in 2026, 3% general wage increase in 2027, and a step increase subject to satisfactory performance.
This settlement is in line with the City Council direction provided earlier.
Alternative Options:
Reject the proposed wages with different provisions.
Financial Impacts:
This settlement is within the budget guidelines.
Tentative Timelines:
Non-union employees and employees covered by approved 2025-2027 labor contracts will receive a wage increase with a satisfactory performance review effective January 1, 2025.
