Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield City Council approves a Resolution for a variance from Minnesota Rules for State Aid Operation 8820.9961 for the Angled Parking on Division Street MSAH 119 from Sixth Street to Seventh Street.

Summary Report:

The City Council is being asked to consider a resolution requesting a variance from State Aid Rules for Angled Parking on Division Street from Sixth Street to Seventh Street.  Staff, in working with their project engineers and the MnDOT District 6 State Aid engineer, identified a need for a variance request.  Due to the traffic volume on Division Street, State Aid Rules require a 14-foot separation from the traffic lane to the angled parking stalls.

Staff will meet with the State Aid Variance review committee on December 14, 2017 to present the variance request.  Staff is hopeful that due to the context of being downtown and the proposed project design elements that we will be successful with our request.
