Summary Report:
The City of Northfield and the Clean River Partners host an annual poster contest with local elementary schools. This year, Second through Fifth grade students from Prairie Creek Community School, Greenvale Park Elementary, Spring Creek Elementary, St. Dominic Elementary, and Bridgewater Elementary schools were asked to design a poster with the theme: "Be the Solution to Stormwater Pollution." Through this exercise, these youth become aware of what stormwater is, where it goes, and how to prevent excess nutrients and other pollutants from entering into the Cannon River.
This year, 171 posters were submitted for the contest. Following is a list of submission numbers for each of the participating schools.
Spring Creek Elementary: 16
Bridgewater Elementary: 12
Greenvale Park Elementary: 81
Prairie Creek Community School: 21
St. Dominic School: 41
Culvers and the City of Northfield were generous in donating prizes for the top three posters from each grade.
These posters will be displayed in City Hall until the next poster contest in 2024. Facilitating contests like this helps satisfy Minimum Control Measures (MCM) 1 & 2 (Public Outreach & Education & Public Participation and Involvement) associated with the City's MS4 stormwater permit, and is financially supported by the City of Northfield through the yearly contract with the Clean River Partners.
