Action Requested:
The City Council considers approval of the attached Resolution approving the plans and specifications and authorizing the advertisement for bids for the Fifth Street Bridge 66505 Maintenance Project (2021STRT-B00).
Summary Report:
The City Council is asked to pass a resolution approving the plans and specifications and authorizing the advertisement for bids for the Fifth Street Bridge 66505 Maintenance Project (2021STRT-B00). The current Bridge, which was originally constructed in 1964, and last rehabilitated in 1986, is located on Fifth Street spanning the Cannon River (Attachment 2). The Project includes expansion joint repair, concrete approach panel replacement, diaphragm replacement and other miscellaneous repair to the bridge, that were identified in the latest Bridge Inspection.
The action requested is the next step to move this project forward. The 2021 - 2025 Adopted Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) included $350,000 in bonding to complete the project. Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-September, and be completed by November 15, 2021.
Staff is recommending the City Council approve the attached resolution and authorize the advertisement for bids for the Fifth Street Bridge 66505 Maintenance Project.
Alternative Options:
The City Council could delay this project; however, the bridge will continue to deteriorate, and additional maintenance may be required.
