Action Requested:
The HRC receives an around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion the City is working on.
Summary Report:
* Developing a request for proposal for trainer to work with City staff on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training in 2021.
* October 21st from 5 - 6:30 PM will be online training for Board and Commission members, Navigating and Leading with an Equity Lens, offered by University of Minnesota Extension. Zoom link was included in calendar invitation. Please accept it so we know who is coming.
* Book conversations around A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota went well with 27 people participating. We are working on developing a "kit" people can check-out to use with friends and other groups in socially distanced way.
* Developing a Community Equity effort in collaboration with HCI and Northfield Public Schools.
* Library hosting Hispanic Heritage month events.
* The Mayor appointed a short-term Police Department Policy Review Task Force. The task force was created by the City Council by resolution to include a diverse group of participants that represent a wide range of community members. Through the work these members do with the organizations they are affiliated with, they are able to bring forward ideas and viewpoints that represent a large cross-section of our community. Additionally, they are familiar with the challenges those they represent face in daily life, including those that have traditionally been underrepresented in decision-making and in government.
* Funding for increased translation services is being requested in 2021 budget.
* First round of the Growing Local: Northfield Emerging Leaders program wrapped up in September. 15 people completed the program.
