Consideration of Mayoral Appointments to the Housing and Redevelopment Authority.

The Northfield City Council approves the following board/commission appointments:
• Sandy Gerdes to the Housing and Redevelopment Authority for a four-year term ending December 31, 2023
• Shelley Holden to the Housing and Redevelopment Authority for a five-year term ending December 31, 2024
Summary Report:
The City Council is being asked to approve the appointments as noted above. Copies of the proposed appointees’ applications are attached.
On January 28, 2020, the Housing & Redevelopment Authority (HRA) adopted a resolution increasing the HRA Board size from five (5) members to seven (7) members and approved bylaw changes to that effect. The reason for the change was to provide for greater perspectives to be included with additional representatives. A copy of the items from the HRA board packet are attached. There was an error in the bylaws related to quorum being four not three that was noted at the meeting and is being corrected. The City Attorney was consulted and advised that the HRA does have the authority to increase the size of the board.
The City received 55 applications from many highly qualified individuals for 38 board/commission openings. As part of the process, I met with available applicants for approximately 30 minutes each over the course of 12 days. These meetings provided me with a chance to get to know new applicants as well as provided a check-in time for those that I already know or that were re-applying for a position.
