Action Requested:
The Northfield City Council approves summary publication of Ordinance No. 1009 Amending Northfield City Code, Chapter 30 - Health and Sanitation, Article II. - Tobacco.
Summary Report:
The Northfield City Council has completed the first and second readings of Ordinance No. 1009 regarding amending the tobacco ordinance. City Charter Section 4.10 permits summary publication of ordinances.
Alternative Options:
The City Council could direct staff to publish the entire ordinance. However, it would be very costly due to the number of pages that would need to be published.
Financial Impacts:
The cost to publish the entire ordinance is estimated to be approximately 10-15 times more than the cost to publish the summary.
Tentative Timelines:
• First reading of ordinance January 7, 2020.
• Second reading of ordinance January 21, 2020 and approve summary publication.
• Summary publication January 29, 2020.
• Ordinance effective 30 days after publication.
