Canoe/Kayak River Access Update

Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield Park and Recreation Advisory Board is updated on the next steps for the canoe/kayak river access.

Summary Report:

The Northfield Park and Recreation Advisory Board approved a location at Riverside Park for a Kayak/Paddle Board/Canoe takeout June 21, 2018.  Since the Council established the Riverfront Enhancement Committee, they have begun looking at the River Corridor and this Kayak/Paddle Board/Canoe takeout.  After their review, they have recommended the landing be located in Babcock Park.

After the April Park board meeting there was a census to come up with a concept plan for both Riverside and Babcock Parks to determine the most appropriate location for the river access. There was also agreement to incorporate a trailhead for the Mill Towns State Trail at the canoe/kayak river access.

Staff has chosen to have concept plans drawn for Ames, Riverside and Babcock Parks.  This will help prioritize riverfront enhancements at each park.

Financial Impacts:

$40,000 was budgeted for the river corridor concept planning.
