Title

Consider Adoption of 20-Gallon Garbage Container and Carted Yard Waste Container Utility Rates for 2019.

Body

Action Requested:

The Northfield City Council approves the attached Resolution Adopting the 20-Gallon Garbage Container and Carted Yard Waste Container Utility Fee Schedule for 2019.

Summary Report:

Attached is a resolution for proposed utility rates for the 20-gallon garbage container and carted yard waste. With the recent adoption of the Dick’s Sanitation, Inc. (DSI) Refuse Contract, two new services are being provided through the City’s utility rates. One of the services is for a 20-gallon garbage container. Staff is recommending that the rate to be used is the current 14-gallon container rate of $11.10 flat fee per month for the container. The second new service is a seasonal carted yard waste container pickup. This service is for weekly pickup of yard waste for residents. The proposed rate for this is $7.50 fee per month for this service. The service will be provided the entire spring through fall season. If a resident chooses to have the carted yard waste, the proposed rate will be reflected on their utility bill every month of the year, even when they are not receiving the service. This puts the City breaking even for the $90.00 annual fee provided by DSI.
